The Blues Keep Rollin'
This song is little more than an excuse to pay tribute to some of the blues greats from the early country blues era. The only problem is that when I play it people say "Why did you miss out ..... Tampa Red / Sleepy John Estes / Mississippi John Hurt / Johnny Shines etc etc?" No reason, except the song would have been far too long!
Chorus
The Blues keep rolling
The Blues keep rolling
The Blues keep rolling
Like a wheel they roll along
Big Joe Played a nine-string
Blind Willie played a twelve-string
But no one's sounded bigger
Than Robert Johnson's Blues Guitar
You’ve heard of Sonny and Brownie
One was blind and one was crippled
They made the greatest blues team
That the world has ever seen
chorus
Bukka rode on the bald eagle
Broonzy had the keys to the highway
But Sonhouse got a letter
And put on his walking shoes
Some songs live forever
Lightnin' learnt one from Blind Lemon
He asked for a kind favour
See That My Grave is Kept Clean
chorus
Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters
Inspired a generation
Along with Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley
Who called it rock and roll
The Rolling Stones and Bobby Dylan
Learnt all they could from the great bluesmen
And when he got close to dying
Chris Rea did the same
chorus
