Damascus

This song is about a journey of self-discovery and coming home.

The Damascus in this song is not Damascus in Syria, but Damascus in Virginia, USA. By using this town as a setting, the song draws some parallels with the conversion of Paul of Tarsus, but in a more modern western setting. When I wrote this I had Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" in the back of my mind.

I don't know what I'm searching for, I'm hoping for a sign
I don't know what I'm searching for, I'm hoping for a sign
I don't know what I'm searching for, I'm hoping for a sign
I don't know what's troubling me, but it's heavy on my mind
Heavy on my mind
It's heavy on my mind
I don't know what's troubling me, but it's heavy on my mind

This road that I'm travelling on, I walk it every day
This road that I'm travelling on, I walk it every day
This road that I'm travelling on, I walk it every day
I don't know where it's heading to but I’ve got to find my way
Got to find my way
I've got to find my way
I don't know where it's heading to but I’ve got to find my way

Now the air is getting heavy, heat shimmers on the hill
The air is getting heavy now, heat shimmers on the hill
The air is getting heavy now, heat shimmers on the hill
How I wish a breeze was blowing but everything seems so still
Everything seems so still
Everything seems so still
I wish a breeze was blowing but everything seems so still

The sun is beating down on me, it’s getting too dark to see
The sun is beating down on me, it’s getting too dark to see
The sun is beating down on me, it’s getting too dark to see
I wake up in Damascus, find you waiting there for me
Waiting there for me
Waiting there for me
I wake up in Damascus, find you waiting there for me
