I Feel So Sad
This is a song about feeling down. It borrows from those old blues cliches "If the river was whiskey ..." and "I feel like and engine that ain't got no drivin' wheel" which were frequently used by those old time country blues singers who really did have the blues. Despite the theme of the song, it has a nice sing-along chorus.
If the river was whiskey
And I was a diving duck
I’d dive down to the bottom (Oh Lord)
And I’d never come up
But the river ain’t whiskey
And I sure ain’t no diving duck
I’m just feeling so, so, sad
And I’m down on my luck
Chorus
I feel so sad
I feel so sad
I feel so sad I’ve got it so bad
It’s the worst that I’ve ever had
If you were to ask me
Exactly how I feel
I might say just like an engine (Oh Lord)
That ain’t got no driving wheel
But I ain’t no engine
I don’t need no driving wheel
To tell you the truth I just don’t know
Exactly how I feel
chorus
If you see me crying
Please just pass on by
You only would embarrass me
If you asked the reason why
Sometimes there is no reason
And a man just has to cry
It could just be an old memory
Like a dark cloud passing by
chorus
