Invisible Man

During the Covid Lockdown the Woodman Folk Club ran a virtual folk club in which submitted a video each month. During one month I purchased a green bandana style facemask which was too uncomfortable to wear as a face mask. Not wanting to waste the purchase I realised that if I used it to cover my whole face, using screen screen technology, I could appear like an invisible man. All I needed was a song ...

I hoped you would be coming
If you asked me I'd come running
Like you were a celebrity
And I was your biggest fan
I try to make my intentions clear
But instead you act like I'm not here
You just look through me
Like I'm an invisible man

I want you to notice me
Wave or even smile at me
Just don't leave me in the corner
With a drink held in my hand
Why don't you come over
Don't worry I'm still sober
Just don't look through me
Like I'm an invisible man

I've practiced what to say to you
I'd tell you all the things I'd do
For you if you would only listen
To my plans
You and I could get away
On a Caribbean holiday
Please do not look through me
Like I'm an invisible man

Now the lights are fading
And the band is playing
A sad romantic ballad
Which makes me want to hold your hand
But I know you'll never see me
Because of my transparency
To you I will always be
Just an invisible man
