Killer In Disguise
Conversations at a bar can be fun, as most people mellow after a drink or two, and you get to hear some good jokes. You often come across people who get a bit rowdy, but it's not usually a problem. On this occasion I was having a drink with a salesman who I had just met at a conference. It was a scary experience. As he told me about his life I thought of something I had read recently about corporate psychopaths.
He ordered gin and tonic but he called it G and T
He drank it down in one and sucked the ice through his teeth

I wished I wasn't there to share his private grief

He had started out with nothing and was strangely proud of that
But now his children had the best that his money could buy
yes he started out with nothing now he owns a penthouse flat
And a quiet country house where his family resides

Why his children did not respect him as they should
His wife’s eyes were empty – he couldn’t understand

There was nothing he liked better than a quiet secluded meal
With a downtrodden client on the darker side of town
There was nothing he liked better than to clinch a business deal
Especially if he knew that he'd screwed the price right down

When he felt threatened by shadows in the night
He would keep the world at bay and lock his doors quite tight
He would huddle naked staring at the fire
Hunger in his eyes as the flames danced higher

I think he would have been happy in another age, another time
