Now All I Listen to Is The Blues
A few years ago I was talking to a lady at a blues club. She told me that she used to listen to all types of music, country, rock, pop music and she also used to go out to clubs dancing. That all came to an end when she heard Robert Johnson sing and she told me that now all she listens to is the blues
Well I used to listen to pop music
Hip hop, Country, rap and disco too
But then I heard Robert Johnson sing
Now all I listen to is the blues
I listened to Willie Dixon
Howling Wolf and Muddy Waters too
Now I’ve heard Robert Johnson sing
All I listen to is the blues
I used to go out dancing
I put on my dancing shoes
I used to like sweet romancing
But now it’s over between me and you
I listened to Furry Lewis
Lightning Hopkins and Blind Lemon too
Now I’ve heard Robert Johnson sing
All I listen to is the blues
I used to be a sharp dresser
Mohair suits were all that I would wear
But now I wear jeans and loose sweatshirts
Sometimes I forget to comb my hair
I listened to Big Joe Williams
Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry too
Now I’ve heard Robert Johnson sing
All I listen to is the blues
Now I'm thinking of the Crossroads
I'm thinking of the man
Who made a pact with the devil
With a guitar in his hand
I listened to Blind Willie Johnson
Bukka White and Charlie Patton too
Now I’ve heard Robert Johnson sing
All I listen to is the blues
Now I just drink rye whiskey
It seems the only thing to do
As I put another record on the phonograph
You’ve got to be mellow to listen to the blues
I listened to Robert Pete Williams
Mance Lipscome and Fred McDowell too
Now I’ve heard Robert Johnson sing
All I listen to is the blues
