The Inuit Warning

A few years ago the Inuits noticed a change in the climate and the appearance of the sky. They were convinced that the Earth’s axis had shifted and they wrote to NASA to warn them that this, not greenhouse emissions, was the cause of climate change. Of course NASA told them that they were wrong, as did a lot of less kind critics online. They got some support though and this song is about respecting other cultures and listening to what they have to say, rather than getting obsessed about the politically correct terms to use when referring to them.

You used to call us Eskimos
But you say that was disrespect
So now you call us Inuits
You think it’s more correct
... More politically correct

You tell us how you respect us
How our wisdom and knowledge is good
You're so pleased we report the ice melting
Just as your scientists said it should
You tell us about global warming
And how pollution is the cause
You show us your theories and predictions
But you will not admit any flaws

We believed the earth's axis had shifted
Suddenly a few years ago
We wrote to NASA we had to warn them
But they didn’t want to know
We told them how the sky is changing
Now the sun sets in a different place
They smiled at us in good humour
And threw the mirage effect in our face

It seems that you only respect us
When we say what you want us to say
But if we challenge your theories
You brush our knowledge and wisdom away
We really don't care what you call us
Respect is not measured by names
Carefully consider what we have told you
Then we might just respect you again
